ULTRASOUND RESULTS... and more!

Kaylin did not like the Ultrasound at all. She screamed through the entire thing (10 minutes worth)! 5 1/2 hours after the test, Dr. Johnson called to let us know that the results were good. There was NO fluid that they could tell and we will watch through the next several visits. If there is another jump in head size then tests might have to be repeated and a CT scan might be ordered. I was totally relieved that there is nothing wrong with Kaylin and that she just has a big head!

On a better note...Kaylin started talking in her sleep last night. It was so FUNNY!! Ryan thinks she was nervous about her appointment today, but... I think we have a talker and maybe even a sleepwalker on our hands. She was all over the crib last night. I don't think she even knew she was moving around so much!

12 Month Stats...

Today we went to Kaylin's well child check!
Weight: 19 pounds 13 1/2 ounces (25% still)
Height: 30 1/2 inches (90%)
Head: 48 cm (off the charts)
Because Kaylin's head measurement is off the charts Dr. Johnson wants us to take her in for a head ultrasound to make sure that everything is okay with her. I am sure that everything is fine, but... you never know! Kaylin also will be seeing an optometrist in March because she had some spots show up on her vision screening test! Other than these few things that need to be addressed her visit went well. Dr. Johnson wants us to encourage walking which we already knew! Kaylin's language is great and all of her small motor skills are perfect!!!

Standing up UPDATE!!!

Thank you to all of you who commented. I just kept laying her back down and FINALLY she went to sleep. When she was awake we practiced standing up so she would not need to practice when her afternoon nap came around. When the naptime did come around I reminded her that she needed to stay laying down until after she had slept. She did NOT get up at all until 2 hours later when she had taken a GREAT nap!!! She hasn't stood up again but is greeting us sitting up (although I think if we waited to go get her a little longer she would probably be standing)!

Standing up...

This morning when I put Kaylin down for her nap she started to cry a different cry than she ever has so I ran upstairs to see what was wrong. When I opened the door I found Kaylin STANDING in her crib!!! She has been getting up on her knees for a few weeks, but never anything more and she would just cry until we helped her up the rest of the way so I didn't expect her to be STANDING in her crib!!! It took over 45 minutes of repeatedly laying her down for her to finally stay down and go to sleep and then she only slept for about 45 minutes. Does anyone have any tips for me on how to keep her laying down in her crib when it is time to sleep (besides rocking her to sleep; she won't let me even attempt that... I tried)!!!?!!

I can't believe how she thinks she is not a baby any more. I feel like she turned one so she thinks she has to everything a big girl is suppose to do in 2 days!!!

Kaylin's Birthday Party...

(Of course when you want to blog something is some sort of order... blogger puts the pictures on wrong and I can't change it... so the post below is a little out of order but it works!)

We had so much fun at Kaylin's party. We had a yummy lunch (turkey or ham sandwiches, vegi tray, Grandma Evans' potato salad, Jennie's Pasta Salad, and chips)!! We also enjoyed Cake and Ice Cream after presents were opened!

Madelyn and Hiett (Kaylin's Cousins) were some of the 20 or 25 people at the party! Kaylin LOVES the Backyardigans so we went with party hats and dessert plates. The kids loved them (at least the ones who know who the Backyardigans are)!

I went all out on her party! I know that for a first birthday they will not remember but I just had to! I hung streamers from the ceiling fan and we put the balloons that Nana and Papa Murphy sent on the mantle. It was so cute and we had so fun. Before everyone arrived, Kaylin played with the new Learning Table we got for her.

Kaylin really got into opening her presents. She got lots of great stuff, thanks to all of you who gave her something she LOVES them all!!

This is Kaylin's cake! It think it turned out pretty cute! The rest of us ate smaller cupcakes! Much easier to serve that way!
As for the lack of pictures for this day... In the middle of opening presents our camera died! YES just stopped working even if we put in NEW batteries. For those of you following our camera saga I just got this one in JULY 2008 for my Birthday!!! I will definately be contacting KODAK because there should be NO reason why it should have died! We have been really overly nice to this camera because we really didn't want to buy another! Thankfully for Mom, Emily and Val who took pictures for me but now I have to wait to get them! So the messy faced 1 year old post will have to be another time!
After some of the family and friends left, Kaylin started playing with her toys. She got a horse on wheels and figured out how to make it go backwards. She LOVED that she could get places lots faster. Kaylin also got up on her hands and knees and started CRAWLING! Oh how I wished I had my camera to capture the moment of her crawling, that too will have to come at another time when I get my camera fixed, replaced, or I just give in and buy another!!

Happy Birthday Kaylin!!!

One year ago today this is where I found myself...

At the hospital about ready to have my beautiful baby girl. My water broke in the middle of the night so I knew I would be having my baby by 3:30am no matter what (you have to have them within 24 hours after this happens)!! At 6:30 am I was put on pitocin to help contractions come better, at 8:30am I had my epidural and then at almost 2pm I finally started pushing! At 4:48pm Kaylin Sarah Murphy was finally born! I didn't get to hold her right away because the respitory therapist needed to get out all the "gunk" before anyone got to hold her! I saw pictures of her before I got to hold her! Thanks to digital camera's!!

Kaylin weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces and was 19 inches long.

At 6 weeks old, Kaylin got RSV and was put on Oxygen at home. Let me tell you the hardest thing I have ever had to do was to put the little tube in her nose, knowing it would be at least a week that she would need the oxygen. 6 days later the oxygen was removed and that was a great day! We hope to NEVER repeat this again!

Kaylin has learned so much in the last year and I know she will continue to learn so much in the years to come! Kaylin loves to play with her dolls, balls, stacking cups, the remote control (she can reprogram the TV faster than you think), any cell phone she can get her hands on, and the lion! She has begun talking quite a bit in the last few weeks and is signing more and more!

Kaylin has always been such a happy, good baby! I think I am VERY blessed. Kaylin has such a way of making everyone happy and laugh when they need it. I am so extremely grateful to have Kaylin in my life. I really don't know what I would do without her; she has brought Ryan and I so much happiness. We LOVE being her parents and seeing her learn and grow! Now if only we could get her walking!!! LOL!!!

Please Mommy...?

Last night while eating Apple Crisp and Ice Cream Kaylin wanted some so she politely asked/ signed Please! So I gave her some. As soon as that bite was gone she asked for more and more and more. It got to the point where she would kick my leg to get my attention and then sign please because she knew that she would get some for asking "nicely". I don't think she will have any problem eating cake and ice cream at her birthday party this weekend!! This video also captured some of her other not so great traits... blowing raspberries for example. Kaylin had all of us( Me, Ryan, Auntie Em and Sarah) laughing most of the time we were eating (she has a way of doing that quite regularly)!!!

Sledding

Today we decided that the weather was finally nice enough to take Kaylin outside to enjoy her sled from Nana and Papa Murphy! We were watching our friends little girl, Eryn, so we took both girls out on the sled. The squeals from both girls were so much fun to hear. We will definately be taking Kaylin sledding again this year, because she LOVED it so much!

Girly Things...

I absolutely LOVE having a girl, because I get to dress her in super cute clothes and I get to put bows/headbands on her. Well around Christmas time I was watching Good Things Utah and they were making bows for the tops of Christmas presents using this:

It's called a Bowdabra! I found it at Robert's Crafts for about $20 but used a 50% off coupon so I paid $10. You can make large bows for gifts like they were on Good Things Utah or you can make smaller bows like this:

I attached this bow to a clip that I found at Sally's Beauty Supply and I will slide it into one of Kaylin's headbands! And because I put it on a clip I can use this bow when she has more hair. I am so excited to use my Bowdabra more often and make Kaylin's bows from now on.

New Year's Eve Fun

We spent New Year's with Ryan's family and our friends Randy and Shallan John. We had so much fun with them. Aunt Laura and Uncle Raymond made dinner and then we played games. It was so great to spend New Year's in Oklahoma with our family that we love so much. It didn't take Kaylin long to warm up to them. She had them all laughing within minutes!

Oklahoma Vacation...

We had so much fun in Oklahoma. Nana and Papa really liked having both of their grand-daughters there. I know this picture doesn't really show their faces, but they had smiles on their face most of the time we were there. Kaylin loved being the older one and LOVED playing with Emerson.

The boys in the family spent most of the days and nights watching football. If there was a game on they were watching... or shall I say sometimes napping. In the picture above, I came in after getting ready for Kaylin's almost 1 party to find both Ryan and his dad asleep! Both of them denied it until I showed them the proof!

Kaylin's birthday is about 3 weeks away and because only Nana and Papa will be here for her actual birthday; we decided to have an almost 1 party for Kaylin. Above is a picture of her enjoying her cupcake. She LOVED it very much. I can't wait until her birthday party here in Utah when she gets to eat her own chocolate cake!

All weekend, Kaylin thought that it was so fun to blow "raspberries". I on the otherhand was not amused at all. Ryan captured my face perfectly to her spitting everywhere!
We had so much fun with our family and friends while in Oklahoma. Nana and Papa made the week so fun by giving Kaylin presents every day. She got 2 books, 2 puzzles, and a toy cell phone and keys. I loved watching Kaylin play with her new toys and thought it was a great idea to give her the toys 1 per day, that way she wasn't too overwelmed with presents all at once. In the 6 days we were there Kaylin's vocabulary has grown so much. She was talking or signing almost constantly. She wanted to get into Nana's cactus all the time and the whole time scooting over to it she would say, "no, no, no..."! I guess I need to teach her better what NO means!
Kaylin did well on the airplane. We almost always get looks from the passengers around us that seem to say, "oh man we have a baby around us." After the flights we had several people tell us what a good traveling baby we have. Hopefully this good behavior will continue so that we can still enjoy our flights to Oklahoma for our visits/vacations!!!
